The Ocular Microbiology
Special Interest Group of the Australian Society for
Microbiology and the
St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne will present this half day
workshop.
Consultants and Registrars
from Royal Victorian Eye & Ear Hospital, Melbourne will take
part and show how eye specimens are collected and the
difficulties and limitations of these.
Cases will be presented by
registrars and lab staff and invited experts from other states
will demonstrate the lab techniques used in lab diagnosis of
ocular infections, including Acanthamoeba culture, viral and
fungal techniques and the limitations and interpretation of
bacterial cultures.
Some recent advances in the
field of ocular microbiology will also be presented.
Delegates will first meet for
a special networking lunch which will be followed by the
workshop. A short break for afternoon tea will be provided
- all included with registration.
